Planning the Wedding Liturgy

St. Benedict’s shares your joy on this very special occasion.  We Catholics believe that the Sacrament of Matrimony is a communal celebration of God’s grace.  You are blessed with a life together and we are blessed to have you as a member of our parish. It is not “your” day, it is “ours.”  We are with you in Christ Jesus our Lord.

To assist you with the planning of our special day, we have developed a user-friendly, on-line Wedding Liturgy Planning Guide.

STEP 1
The best thing you can do to prepare for this day is to develop your faith life.  Join us for our Sunday liturgies (5 p.m. on Saturdays, 8 a.m., 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on Sundays).  Continue with your personal prayer and do not let worldly preparation of “the perfect wedding” keep you from worshipping and praying to God.  Spend as much time as you can with your spouse-to-be talking about married life together, not just making arrangements for the reception. Get priorities in place early in your marriage. Find more room for God at the start of your marriage. Be active in our faith community starting today.

STEP 2
Use our convenient Wedding Liturgy Planning Guide.  Print it and fill it out as you go. Bring it with you to the rehearsal and keep it handy when you are contacting the rectory, musicians, readers, videographers, gift bearers, etc.  Of course, we would be happy to meet with you in person as well.  Contact the rectory at 834-1041 and we will put you in touch with someone who can meet with you or answer your questions.

STEP 3
Familiarize yourself with Catholic Liturgy options and parish policies.
Here are the main items to be thinking about (click each link for information and parish policies):

Celebrant(s), Rehearsal, Gift Bearers and Altar Servers

Church Music and Musicians

Biblical Readings and Readers

Vows

STEP 4
Share your choices with the rectory and all those involved in our wedding liturgy.
