SALT AND LIGHT

We are dedicated to praying, learning about, teaching and acting on Catholic Social Teaching.

Next meeting - Thursday 17 May at 6:30 pm in the Tobin Room.  We will continue to focus on our health/wellness plans.  All welcome. (some work is done via email beforehand; contact us for background discussion if you plan on coming).

Here are the notes from our meeting - Tuesday, 27 March.  Everyone is welcome to join us anytime!  See topic 1 for date and place.
Great meeting tonight!  Thanks for your commitment to Catholic Social Teaching.
After beginning with prayer, we covered these Topics:
1. Agreed to change meetings to the the fourth THURSDAY of the month.  Therefore, our next meeting is THURSDAY, April 26th at 7pm.  We will meet in the Tobin Room, use the Eggert Rd. lot and door #5.
2. David Ehrenreich gave us a substantial and detailed report on a local micro lending project which has already received city funding and may gain federal funds as well through Congressman Higgins.  We will continue to look for ways to assist with the initiative he is spearheading, particularly for ways our parish can contribute. David has agreed to keep us updated at meetings.
3. The parish nurse initiative appears to be broadening into a more general desire to reach out to the sick in various ways.  We would like to focus on this at our next meeting, and if possible, sketch out a practical plan/timeline. We are hoping that in addition to our two nurses on Salt and
Light (Debbie and Mary), Carolyn and Carol may be able to be with us at our next meeting to share their expertise. Members should be thinking of ways to make this project happen. What needs to we have in the parish?  What gifts cans we share? Etc.
4. We will continue to get the word out about our parish commitment to the "Fr. Gary/Sr. Klimczak" Clinic in South Sudan. Matt and Kathy will keep us updated. The school children are to be congratulated for their generous support!
5. Agreed to keep running Catholic Social Teaching pieces in parish media. Debbie and Mark will take care of getting these to Dn. Bill.  New Catholic Relief video on AIDS success in Africa has been added to our website homepage for awhile.  Www.saintbenedicts.com Other CRS feeds have also been added.
6. Kathy and some others will be advocating for various Issues of importance to Catholics with Congresswoman Hochul soon. Kathy also reminded us of the workshops on Human Trafficking taking place locally.  Dn. Bill will get information on the parish media sources ASAP.
7. Dn. Bill needed the meeting with a prayer and an encouragement for members to be present at the Easter Vigil since two of our members have major roles - Fred is becoming Catholic and David's fiancé and her children are being baptized.  Please join us!!
Thanks again for being the hands of Christ.  May our Lord's passion, death and resurrection remind you that this suffering Church will rise too!

GARDEN PROJECT
MOVES FORWARD

Our Generations of the Faith and First Communicant families have agreed to lead the project to "reinstate the garden" behind the Catholic Charities building.

We invite all of you to be a part of it! Please come on Saturday, May 19th starting at 9:30 am (pray for sunshine!) and we will work together to restore the gardens!

We plan a cookout at noon and we invite you to please join us and bring a dish to pass. Please RSVP to the Rectory by phone or email with your attendance and the number in your family who will be attending.

This is such an inspiring project and we hope as many of you can come as possible. Thank you!
