 Waves of Faith

July 17 - 21, 2017

VBS - Day 1 Monday, July 17, 2017          Don't be afraid, just believe.  Mark 5:36

Dear Parents,

What a great day we had today! We have 64 children enrolled in VBS this year and we have close to 70 middle and high school volunteers helping out as station leaders and buddies. God is good sending all of these young children and young adults our way!

Today was all about Noah and the Ark. Noah believed that God would take care of him and his family. He listened as God talked to him and told him to build that ark, and because of his faith, they were saved from the flood.

The children spent time listening to the story, watching a video, singing, working on a craft, and playing some outdoor games all related to the story of Noah and the Ark. Can you guess what we had for snack? Animal crackers, of course!

We hope that the children had a good time, and that they are looking forward to returning tomorrow morning for another fun-filled day. Don't forget to have them wear their shirts, and bring a water bottle. See you in the morning!

VBS - Day 2 Tuesday, July 18, 2017          With God, all things are possible.  Matthew 19:26

Dear Parents,
Well I need to tell you all how much your children are making us smile! They are so much fun to watch throughout the morning as they work on their crafts, sing with joy, and play outside.

Today's story was Jonah and the Whale. The message was to let them know that God is with them wherever they go, and that God wants them to come to him and ask for strength if they are ever scared about something. They also learned that if they've done something wrong, instead of trying to forget about it or hide it, God wants them to tell him about it and ask for forgiveness.

Well, we didn't have whale for snack today, but we did have "Jonah in the Trail" mix. Somewhere in their trail mix was a sour patch kid representing Jonah!

We're looking forward to another day of smiles tomorrow! Have a good evening.

VBS - Day 3 Wednesday, July 19, 2017          Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good.  Psalm 107:1

Dear Parents,

Another great day today at VBS! We've been hearing a lot of good feedback from you, especially concerning the songs. So, I've decided to post the links to the songs we've been singing in case your children want to sing the songs at home.

I Walk by Faith          Arky Arky          Who Did Swallow Jonah          Wherever I Go

He is the Light          Walk on Water          I've Got Peace Like a River

Today's story was about the baptism of Jesus. The children learned that Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, and that upon his baptism, the Holy Spirit came down from the clouds as a beautiful white dove.

We celebrated Jesus' baptism with cake today for our snack. Crafts, video, stories, outdoor games, and snacks have been filling our mornings. We hope the children are having as much fun as we are! See you tomorrow for Day 4.

VBS - Day 4 Thursday, July 20, 2017          I will walk by faith, even when I cannot see.  2 Corinthians 5:7

Dear Parents,

Today the children spent time learning about some of Jesus' miracles, including the one where Jesus was able to walk on the water. The message we wanted the children to understand is that we need to keep our eyes on Jesus and have faith that he can help us through anything we might face in life.

Our hope is that your children have gone home this week and shared these Bible stories with you. They've been such good listeners, and have participated well at each of the stations. We've seen the talents God has given them, whether it be as a singer, an artist, or someone who is there to help others.

We're looking forward to Day 5 tomorrow as we close our week out. Before leaving tomorrow, please be sure that your child has their certificate (which they'll receive at the closing), any crafts they may have finished, and their water bottles.

VBS - Day 5 Friday, July 21, 2017          Trust the Lord with all your heart.  Proverbs 3:5

Dear Parents,

What storms in our hearts need calming? Today we learned that with Jesus, he can help and calm that storm.

In our closing time the kids chanted yes that they wanted to come back next year, and that energy made feel wonder and awe as the Holy Spirit was in our mists.

Thank you for sending these amazing kids to us this week, and for reigniting the flame in my heart for faith through them. On behalf of Fr. Mock, Nancy and myself, please help them keep this energy alive. This energy has the ability to not only revitalize our Church but help a world in need.

God Bless and please know that my door is always open, not just during the school year or VBS week for any of these amazing kids.

Give thanks to the lord for he is good, trust in him, take that leap to him.

Thanks again so much!!!!! YES!!!! This week was amazing.

Conquering Challenges with God's Mighty Power

VBS – Day 1 Monday, July 18, 2016                     Everlasting God

Dear Parents,

God has the power to provide!

This was our message today at Vacation Bible School. All went well and the kids all seemed to have a good time. When the students came back for our Summit Meeting at the end of the day, they were able to tell me how each session taught them how God provides for us.
Some responses were: God provides us with fresh air, a way to exercise and strengthen our muscles, creativity, a loving family, song, fun, food and nutrition, and water.

I hope your child came home happy and that they enjoyed the morning. Water and a snack is provided during the day for your children.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns for the rest of the week.

Have a great day!

VBS - Day 2 Tuesday, July 19, 2016                     My God is Powerful

Dear Parents,

God has the power to comfort!

We had another great day today with lots of smiles, laughter, and singing! Our theme today taught us how God is always with us to comfort us during times of worry, sadness, or fear.

During the Bible Expedition session today the children learned how God comforted Elijah during a difficult time by whispering "I love you!" At the Imagination Station the children made little lanterns to learn how God comforts us with light during times of darkness. While at the Kid Vid Cinema, the students watched a video where some children were making stuffed monsters to cheer up sick kids in a hospital. They then made up their own skits about comforting others.

I hope your children are coming home and sharing with you what they have learned each day.

Peace!

VBS - Day 3 Wednesday, July 20, 2016                Trust In You

Dear Parents,

God has the power to heal.

We had another wonderful day today as we learned about God's healing powers. We not only talked and learned about how God can help heal us when we get hurt in our bodies with colds, fevers, and even broken bones, but also how He heals us when we get hurt in our hearts with sadness or unhappiness.

Our snack today consisted of a rice cake with cream cheese, and strawberries that made the shape of a heart. God has the power to heal our heart aches.

At our Summit Meeting we discussed that God is always there to forgive our sins, if we are truly sorry. God's power is huge, and goes way beyond a band-aid!

Have a great day!

Nancy Zoricak

VBS - Day 4 Thursday, July 21, 2016                    You Carry Me

Dear Parents,

God has the power to forgive!

Here we are in the midst of Day 4 and I am so thankful to be working with such a nice group of children!

First of all, I want everyone to know that with the water situation in our community today we have provided bottles of water for all of the children, and we are prepared for tomorrow also, in case we are told again to not drink tap water yet.

Today, in each session the children are learning that God sent his Son, Jesus, to do something very powerful for us. God is ready to forgive, no matter what.

Each day the children have been receiving a Bible Buddy card on their name tag lanyards. Today's is Pike, a markhor. Markhors have curvy, pointy horns that are sharp - and would be dangerous to be near. Pike's sharp horns remind us of the sharp or hurtful things we sometimes do or say. But, God forgives us when we do wrong!

Have a wonderful day and remember the greatness of God!

VBS - Day 5 Friday, July 22, 2016                      Every Move I Make

Dear Parents,

God has the power to love us forever!

Thank you, parents, for sending your children to St. Benedict's Vacation Bible School. We have had an awesome adventure this week. We reached the summit today!

Our theme today tells us that God will love us unconditionally forever. What greater message can we share with each other!

I truly hope your child had a fun-filled time this week while learning about the power that God has to provide, comfort, heal, forgive, and love us.

Enjoy the rest of your summer and I hope to see you again next year!
